I do have to say it was a book that I could not put down. After the first exciting chapter, I did not think that it could get any better. Each chapter was as good as the first.
I did find that it was quite sad in the last section of the book. You have been through a lot. You have "bared your soul" to your readers.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful book with me. I plan to read you poetry book next.

Aloha Rocky,
Wow!!! Just Wow!!!! I just finished reading "In Poseidon's Pocket" this
afternoon and I was captivated from the very first chapter. You have lived
an extraordinary life (to say the least) and I can totally understand how
you have gotten to the point (philosophically) that you are now with your
simple, quiet life on the Big Island.
I grew up in Northern California (in Chico for 30 years and then later
lived in Woodland and Davis) and I am familiar with most of the small
coastal towns you and Wes docked at during your fishing days. Do you still
keep in touch with any of the other fisherman from the fleet? I would
imagine they are all retired by now?
I studied oceanography, astronomy and physics while I was working on my
biology degree in college, so I really appreciated your insightful
references to these disciplines in your vivid descriptions of your
observations while at sea. I couldn't help but share several of the
adventures and events you described in the book to Barb and she has
already read the first 2 chapters as well. She will probably read the rest
while we are on the plane when we fly to LA to visit Barb's mom.
We have also read several of your poems and thoughts in the "Meanderings
of a Twisted Mind" and have thoroughly enjoyed them as well. You are a
very talented writer with a vast amount of life experience and wisdom to
draw from. Barb and I both think that "In Poseidon's Pocket" would make an
incredible screen play. You must have heard the same thoughts from others
who have read your books?
Mahalo nui loa for sharing your books with us. We feel honored to have
had the opportunity to read them.
Aloha,
Eric

Rocky, I must tell you I read your book in a day and a half. I have not read a book in 15 years or more, just could never get inspired. I could not put your book down. It was like I was living your very life with you. It is the greatest book I have ever read!!!! I just became so wrapped up in your adventure, it was like I was right there with you. I did not want it to finish. I really got emotional at the end. I cried and cried. How very brave you and Wes and Cleo were. I am not good at words. I just cannot begin to tell you the emotions I went through (if that makes any sense). I am going to read the book again, I just must. I just did not want it to end. I just don't know what else to say. The book had such an effect on me. Please keep writing. Thank you so much.

Hi, Diane,
I just wanted to let you know that I finished In Poseidon's Pocket and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's both heartwrenching and uplifting, and I just cried my eyes out at the end.
My brother-in-law used to fish out of Newport, Oregon back in the '80s, maybe even into the '70s. He fished for crab and tuna, and occasionally salmon. He is very ill now with asbestosis, and confined to home and an easy chair, but my husband talks to him every night, and he is pretty sure he remembers your boat. He doesn't remember who was running it, but the name Reward rang a bell with him. His boat was the Restless II. I know he had some hair-raising stories to tell, but he loved it at the same time. When he gave it up he just felt like he had pushed his luck far enough, and didn't want to tempt fate any further.
It couldn't have been easy to tell such a personal story, but I'm glad you've chosen to share it. Mahalo, Liz

What a book (In Poseidon's Pocket). What a capacity Diane has to share her emotions, and bare her soul. Her ability to express herself, and her ability to create lush and vivid pictures with her masterful use of the language is remarkable, and engaging. On one hand I wanted to not put the book down--on the other I wanted to make it last longer. It was an informative and educational story, but also one filled with heart and soul. Thanks!

Your book was awesome and funny, DUDE. When the whale snot came down on you I was laughing very hard. It was so stinky, and slimy and smelly that I was about to barf, DUDE. You should keep on writing books. Bye, DUDE. Love, Luci (age 8)
